PrimeCare Health Mural Progress
BlueDoor South Lawndale Community Day
PrimeCare Health Community Health Centers has commissioned Chicago Public Art Group core artist Rahmaan Statik to create a community-engaged mural on the PrimeCare Health Center property, at 5635 W. Belmont, in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood.
This project acknowledges the significance of current events and their impact on the community, promotes awareness of the importance of community health centers, and highlights the resilience of Belmont Cragin.
Virtual design workshops and an electronic neighborhood survey informed the design, adding specific images that celebrate the northwest side neighborhood. Key themes in the mural are:
Diversity: Polish, LatinX, African American
Bungalows
Food
Equity, diversity, resilience
The project started in September and was finished in December, 2020.
The aim of the Blue Door Neighborhood Center is to improve the health and wellness of residents, as well as support the development of opportunities for those living outside of downtown Chicago. Chicago Public Art Group has helped to create murals for Blue Door Neighborhood Centers in Morgan Park and Pullman.
CPAG Artists Sandra Antongiorgi, Miguel Del Real and Gabriel Villa are currently working with the community to complete a design for the center.
