Fullerton Mural Project, "A Kaleidoscope of Hidden Worlds" by Renee Robbins and Chicago Public Art Group. 19 September, 2017
The Fullerton Avenue at Lake Shore Drive mural project is a dream come true and the result of a twelve year quest to enhance the two extensive walls of the underpass. Inspired by CPAG public art at Bryn Mawr and Foster Avenues at Lake Shore Drive, the Fullerton Mural L3C group pursued its vision to its culmination, "A Kaleidoscope of Hidden Worlds," designed and executed by Chicago artist and muralist, Renee Robbins. This expansive and dynamic mural is a statement on the natural world that examines and presents microscopic and telescopic views in juxtaposition.
The Chicago Public Art Group, a long-time, internationally recognized non-profit organization, was the facilitator and general contractor for the Fullerton Mural Project. Steve Weaver, Executive Director, and Maryrose Pavkovic, Managing Director, managed the work-in-progress from start to finish.
This monumental mural was completely funded by private contributions, and is intended as a gift to the 43rd Ward and City of Chicago. The fundraising initiative was led by Lincoln Park residents' The Fullerton Mural L3C, individually known as Paula Kahn and Philip and Marsha Dowd, and was generously supported by the neighborhood. The design and planning took a year, while the mural itself was completed in about seven weeks. We hope to enjoy "A Kaleidoscope of Hidden Worlds" for many years to come.
